The Miniarur Wunderland model railway in Germany is the biggest model
railroad in the world. By the year 2020 it will operate in a massive area of
13993sq ft. and will have around 1300 trains with 20,000 wagons, 330,000 trees,
6,000 bridges and building structures, 4,000 Switches, 1,900 signals, an airport
model, more than 500,000 lights, 400,000 miniature people or figurines, 10,000
vehicles, and 65, 616 ft of track. It already is the biggest model railroad in the
world.
When you visit Germany and tour the Miniatur Wunderland model railroad you
will discover it is divided into sections: Harz (opened 2001), Knuffingen (opened
2001), Alps / Austria (opened 2001), Hamburg (opened 2002), America (opened 2003),
Skandinavia (opened 2005), Switzerland (opened 2007), and the very popular
Knuffingen Airport (opened 2011).
