The world's biggest model railway is in Germany and is called Miniarur
Wunderland. The total display features around 1,000 trains operating on 42,650 ft
of track. That in itself is unbelievable, but in addition to this, Miniatur
Wunderland model railroad also has an airport with scale model planes taking off
and landing. The display opened with 28 planes and aims to have 45 planes ranging
from Cessna aircraft through to Airbus A380 passenger jets (all in miniature scale
models). The airport runway is 46 ft in length and this area of the display has
40,000 LED lights to add to the realism.
The model train display (and airport) is open 7 days and even has behind the
scenes tours. This wonderful (or should that be wunderful?) exhibition is located
in Hamburg, Germany so there are plenty of airline flights and coach tours visiting
the area.
